Sophie Turner's Steal Debuts With Solid Rotten Tomatoes Score

Sophie Turner's new crime thriller series, Steal, debuts with a solid Rotten Tomatoes score. In the Prime Video show, the Game of Thrones star plays Zara Dunne, an office worker who unexpectedly finds herself at the center of a massive heist. The cast also includes Archie Madekwe as Zara's friend and co-worker, Luke, and Jacob Fortune-Lloyd as DCI Rhys Covac, who investigates what really happened.

Now, Steal has debuted with an 80% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. This initial score is based on five reviews, four of which are "Fresh." The overall average will likely fluctuate as more reviews are added and following all six episodes coming to Prime Video on January 21.

In ScreenRant's Steal review, Ben Gibbons writes, "it struggles to functionally keep up the thrills that were promised from the outset" while acknowledging that "Steal's strengths lie in the wealth of drama and action that result in the series feeling more at home in that genre than the crime thriller territory."

Collider's review by Therese Lacson praises the show for being "one of the strongest recent showcases of Turner's range as an actor" as it "serves up twist after twist."

The sole "rotten" review so far, which comes from Richard Roeper at RogerEbert.com, also hails Turner's "outstanding" performance and for Zara being "an undeniably complex and empathetic character." Issue is taken with the many genre tropes that are relied on, "the collective lack of dark charisma within that heist team," and that if a season 2 happens, "Give Zara a better adventure."

Turner and Madekwe previously spoke with ScreenRant about how the creative decision to have much of the series set after the heist occurs. Madekwe teased how Steal "does turn the formula upside down" as Turner agreed that "it's so refreshing to see the aftermath."

While Turner's new series doesn't seem as though it will reach the critical acclaim of Game of Thrones, her portrayal of Zara is being celebrated as Steal's greatest strength, which adds to the show's many plot twists and overall drama.

This is the only one of several upcoming projects in Sophie Turner's post-Game of Thrones career. She reunited with Jon Snow actor Kit Harington for The Dreadful, a Gothic horror movie releasing in theaters on February 20, and is playing Lara Croft in Prime Video's upcoming live-action Tomb Raider series. A first-look image of Turner as the iconic character was unveiled on January 15 to kick off the beginning of production.

Tomb Raider does not have an official release date yet, but Steal offers an alternative Turner project for Prime Video subscribers to watch as they wait to see her depiction of Lara Croft.

All six episodes of Steal come to Prime Video on January 21.

'Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner Faces the Heist of the Century in New Thriller Series Trailer

Sophie Turner is an ordinary office worker caught up in the crime of the century in the new trailer for Steal. The Prime Video TV series will deal with the aftermath of a devastating heist, as an ordinary woman gets entangled with both the thieves and British intelligence. All six episodes of Steal will premiere on Prime Video on January 21, 2026.

As the trailer opens, office drone Zara (Turner) is working for Lochmill Capital, a pension fund investment company in the heart of London; the only thing dangerous about the job is that she might get bored to death. That all changes when a coterie of armed robbers burst in; disguised in high-tech prosthetics to cloak their true identities, they demand that Zara and best pal Luke (Archie Madekwe) transfer four million pounds into their account. Despite their objections over stealing millions from innocent people, they comply. As the thieves get away, Zara and Luke's troubles are only beginning. DCI Rhys (Jacob Fortune-Lloyd), a cop with a gambling problem, is nosing around Zara's life, the thieves are still on the loose, and MI5, Britain's national intelligence service, is entangled with the whole mess. Zara and Luke had better get to the bottom of this quickly, or they'll end up taking the fall...
