Reacher

Alan Ritchson’s Reacher Officially Returns On Prime Video The Same Day Season 4 Ends

Right after Reacher season 4 ends, Alan Ritchson will return as Jack Reacher again in the franchise's upcoming spin-off series. 2026 has already proven to be an incredible year for Reacher fans, given how season 4 has premiered and is earning positive reviews from viewers and critics. After just three episodes, season 4 already looks like a promising take on Lee Child's Gone Tomorrow.

One good season of Reacher this year would have been enough to keep the franchise's fans compelled. Surprisingly, though, Prime Video is not stopping with Reacher season 4. After Reacher season 4 ends its run, the highly-anticipated Neagley spin-off show will premiere on Prime Video on September 16, 2026. What makes the spin-off even more fascinating is that it marks Alan Ritchson's return as Jack Reacher.

Early BTS photos had already confirmed Ritchson's return in the spin-off. However, the new Neagley trailer features full-fledged action sequences in its opening moments itself that promise some slam-bang Jack Reacher action scenes. While the spin-off will center on Maria Sten's titular character, the spin-off will also seemingly give Reacher a relevant arc.

Neagley’s Trailer Confirms The Real Reason Behind Reacher’s Return

The trailer's opening sequence suggests that Neagley did not actively reach out to Reacher for help. Reacher tells her that she could have just called him if she needed help, suggesting that he somehow tracked her down to help her. With this, Neagley acknowledged that he has her back, and Reacher responds with a sweet but stoic, "You're my friend!"

This development brings an intriguing new spin to Reacher's overarching lore. In season 2, Neagley had to find a way to contact Reacher after their former team members from the 110th Special Investigation Unit started dying. The same season also established how Neagley never judged Reacher's lifestyle choices and respected his boundaries.

The fact that she did not actively call him for help proves that as much as she appreciates Reacher's help, she still respects his boundaries and avoids unnecessarily getting him involved in her crime-solving endeavors. At the same time, it also shows that Reacher does not mind defying some of his own lifestyle rules from time to time to help his friends, Neagley.

Reacher Season 4's Ending Will Likely Setup Alan Ritchson's Neagley Return

Unlike Reacher, the Neagley spin-off show will not follow a weekly release schedule. The entire first season of Neagley drops on Prime Video on September 16, 2026, which is the same day Reacher season 4 ends its run. This release plan for the spin-off suggests Prime Video wants to ensure that Neagley benefits from Reacher's success and momentum.

It also seems likely that Reacher season 4's ending will tie into the upcoming Neagley spin-off, which will further explain Ritchson's return in the upcoming series. Reacher season 4 could also feature a post-credits scene in which the Alan Ritchson character learns Neagley is in trouble. This would explain why he arrives to help her even when she expects it the least.

Regardless of whether Reacher season 4 directly sets up the upcoming spin-off, it looks like a great addition to the franchise. With Neagley alone, it promises to deliver everything from high-octane action scenes to gripping crime solving. Jack Reacher's return promises that, if not anything else, viewers will at least get to see the Alan Ritchson character overpower some bad guys with his near-superhuman strength.

Alan Ritchson Effectively Seals Reacher’s Long-Term Fate On Prime Video

A surprise move from Alan Ritchson effectively seals the long-term fate of Reacher on Prime Video. Following its successful debut in 2022, the action-adventure series immediately became a hit for the streamer. This is despite being burdened by the previous big-screen adaptation of Lee Child's novels. Tom Cruise's movie take on Jack Reacher had its fans, and it remain enjoyable upon rewatch now. That said, it's safe to say that Ritchson's portrayal as the former military-turned-wanderer is widely regarded as its definitive version, especially after three seasons of Reacher.

While its sophomore year wasn't able to be as universally beloved as its freshman year, it never really impacted the public's interest in the Prime Video series. Reacher season 3 posted the highest viewership for the show in its history and considering the hype surrounding what's next for the character, the wait for season 4 has been frustrating for some. Based on "Gone Tomorrow," the next installment of the Prime Video project has long finished production, with a release date supposedly sometime this year. Beyond that, however, Ritchson has effectively confirmed Reacher's long-term fate thanks to a new update.

Alan Ritchson's First-Look Deal With Prime Video Solidifies Reacher's Future

Proof of Prime Video's confidence in the series is the fact that it has already renewed for Reacher season 5 before it could even come back with new episodes this year. Admittedly, that's unsurprising, considering the show's popularity. Looking after that, however, the fate of the project is still uncertain. That said, Ritchson's new three-year first-look television deal with the studio via his production company, Dancing Skeleton (via Deadline), effectively solidifies Reacher's return throughout the terms of that new agreement.

This means that if the show maintains its yearly release, it can run for two to three more seasons after Reacher season 5. Obviously, that doesn't factor in the possibility that Prime Video and Ritchson will extend their current deal, or that the streamer will renew the show even after the first-look agreement is done. However, considering that there are about 30 books in Child's novels, Reacher can definitely stay on the air for more years to come.

Why Reacher Has Resonated With The Public

Reacher is arguably the biggest breakout hit of the last few years. Granted that it had built-in fans, thanks to Child's novels and Cruise's films, it would be hard-pressed to find anyone who could have predicted just how big it was going to be. Streaming and traditional broadcasters have their respective action-adventure book adaptation shows, but very few come close to the success of the Prime Video series. The project has been so popular, the streamer has started to expand the franchise via its very first offshoot, Neagley.

What sets Reacher apart from its peers is how it has been able to perfectly balance being faithful to its source material while also offering viewers something new. This way, fans of the books can still enjoy them without being able to predict every single twist that's coming their way. Beyond that, the fact that Reacher has also made sure to have a yearly release despite being on streaming somehow helps in keeping it relevant amid an influx of other shows in the genre.
