Kayce Dutton’s Violent Marshals Season 2 Return Revives OG Yellowstone Tradition In New Teaser

Kayce Dutton is back and in explosive form in the first Marshals season 2 teaser trailer.

The sequel series to Yellowstone picks up shortly after the events of the original series finale, with Luke Grimes' Kayce joining the U.S. Marshals on invitation from his former Navy SEAL team leader, all while reeling from the death of his wife, Monica, and attempting to raise his son, Tate. Though scoring mixed reviews from critics, Marshals season 1 was a viewership hit for CBS, securing a season 2 renewal just two weeks into its run.

Just over two months after the previous season's finale, People have released the official first Marshals season 2 teaser trailer. The footage sees Luke Grimes' Kayce being confronted by a group of armed men in his home on the East Camp, who he narrowly takes down, while also having to reflect on the Dutton family legacy and the violence that comes with it.

After its March 2026 renewal, progress on Marshals season 2 has been moving at a very rapid pace. Having set the show for a Fall 2026 return, star Logan Marshall-Green confirmed to ScreenRant at the end of May that the Yellowstone spinoff was set to begin filming that same week, while also praising it as an "even better season" than its debut outing.

Kayce Dutton’s Violent Marshals Season 2 Return Revives OG Yellowstone Tradition In New Teaser

Viewers have certainly been anxious about the show's return following Marshals season 1's cliffhanger ending, in which Marshall-Green's Cal and Arielle Kebbel's Belle were caught in the crosshairs of gunmen hired by Chris Mulkey's Tom Weaver, with their fates left open-ended. Additionally, Weaver was shown taking Brecken Merrill's Tate on a trip aboard his private jet, with his true motives largely unclear.

Based on the trailer, one thing that does seem apparent going into Marshals season 2 is that Ellyn Jameson's Dolly Weaver may not be involved in her father's shadier operations. There were some questions raised as to whether she would be connected, serving as a distraction for Kayce in Tom's efforts to acquire East Camp for whatever nefarious plans he has, but with her being held at gunpoint alongside Grimes' character in the footage, she may incidentally become a target alongside her romantic interest.

The other thing that seems clear from the Marshals season 2 teaser trailer is that Kayce will still be confronting the violent legacy that the Dutton family are known for throughout the Yellowstone franchise. The loss of the main ranch and death of Kevin Costner's John Dutton III has left many feeling empowered to fill the power vacuum, as evidenced by Michael Cudlitz's Randall Clegg trying to instigate a war with Kayce and his team. With Weaver also clearly unafraid of taking his own steps to gain more power and land in Montana, Kayce may have to lean into the old Dutton way and once again eschew lawful regulations to protect those he loves.

CBS Sets Fall Dates for ‘Marshals,’ ‘Survivor’ and More

CBS has set its fall premiere dates, and as has been the case for the past few seasons, most of the network’s lineup will launch in early October.

Reality staples Survivor and The Amazing Race will debut a bit earlier, as will 60 Minutes. But all of CBS’ scripted series are set to premiere over six days starting Oct. 4. FBI and CIA follow on Oct. 5, with each show moving up an hour (to 8 and 9 p.m. ET/PT) from their spots last season as CBS eliminated its Monday comedy block for 2026-27. True crime show Harlan Coben’s Final Twist follows at 10 p.m.

An all-NCIS lineup remains on Tuesday nights starting Oct. 6, with newcomer NCIS: New York sandwiched between the flagship series and prequel NCIS: Origins. CBS’ two other new fall series, comedy Eternally Yours and drama Cupertino, premiere Oct. 8 along with Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage and Elsbeth. Ghosts and Matlock are set for midseason premieres, but a pair of Ghosts specials will air on Oct. 29 and Dec. 10 tied to Halloween and Christmas. The Friday lineup of Sheriff Country, Fire Country and Boston Blue debuts Oct. 9.
