There's no new episodes of Marshals tonight, May 31, 2026, for a good reason. All networks have been busy with their respective 2025-2026 programming, but CBS's year has been particularly interesting. Aside from long-time performers, such as NCIS and even Tracker, the broadcaster has solidified the status of its newer offerings, like Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage and even NCIS: Origins. Then, there are the fresh debuts that have immediately resonated with viewers, including Luke Grimes' Marshals.
The series expands the Yellowstone franchise in Montana, while Beth and Rip's story unfolds in Texas in Dutton Ranch. Grimes' return as Kayce Dutton marked the first sequel series in Taylor Sheridan's neo-Western universe, as well as the first installment to be on network TV. As such, some shift in its storytelling was needed for this new era of storytelling, particularly how it marries the tried and true procedural format with the narrative sensibilities of its parent series. This resulted in the most-watched new show of the year thus far. Naturally, fans are eager to know more.
Marshals Season 1 Is Officially Over

Unfortunately, the public will have to be patient when waiting for what's next for Kayce and the rest of his new team, as the Yellowstone sequel is now on hiatus. Despite debuting rather late in the cycle, the largely uninterrupted run of Marshals season 1 allowed it to quickly finish its original 13-episode order, with the finale airing on May 24, 2026. This means that currently, the Grimes-spearheaded series is now in its mandatory summer hiatus, which runs longer than the midseason break.
CBS is using Marshals' original Sunday timeslot tonight for a rerun of the Yellowstone sequel. Per the network's schedule, episode 10, "Playing with Fire" will be on broadcast. It's currently uncertain if this will be the set-up moving forward, as it's a great way to continue drawing people in to watch the show.
When Marshals Season 2 Will Release (& What To Expect)

Leading up to its premiere, there was already an expectation that Marshals would at least do decent numbers for the network. After all, the Yellowstone brand remains very popular, as with anything that is backed by Sheridan. Given this, it was a no-brainer for CBS to greenlight Marshals season 2 early on. The good news is that instead of reclaiming its winter schedule, the network is pushing it forward their portfolio, confirming a fall 2026 release. No exact date announced yet, but it's safe to say that it's going to premiere between September and March.
Considering the massive cliffhanger that put Calvin and Andrea's lives in jeopardy, it's likely that Marshals season 2 won't be starting with a massive time-jump. If it does, that's going to be disappointing to everyone who's waiting to see what's next after that brutal ambush. Beyond that, Tate's life might also be in danger, considering the revelation about Tom Weaver's true colors. Whether he gets exposed early on in the year or Marshals draws out this narrative is uncertain, but it sets up an interesting sophomore year.
CBS Sets Fall Dates for ‘Marshals,’ ‘Survivor’ and More
CBS has set its fall premiere dates, and as has been the case for the past few seasons, most of the network’s lineup will launch in early October.
Reality staples Survivor and The Amazing Race will debut a bit earlier, as will 60 Minutes. But all of CBS’ scripted series are set to premiere over six days starting Oct. 4. Marshals and Tracker — the two most watched shows on network TV last season, excluding live sports — are up first that night, remaining in the Sunday night spots they occupied last season.
FBI and CIA follow on Oct. 5, with each show moving up an hour (to 8 and 9 p.m. ET/PT) from their spots last season as CBS eliminated its Monday comedy block for 2026-27. True crime show Harlan Coben’s Final Twist follows at 10 p.m.
An all-NCIS lineup remains on Tuesday nights starting Oct. 6, with newcomer NCIS: New York sandwiched between the flagship series and prequel NCIS: Origins. CBS’ two other new fall series, comedy Eternally Yours and drama Cupertino, premiere Oct. 8 along with Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage and Elsbeth. Ghosts and Matlock are set for midseason premieres, but a pair of Ghosts specials will air on Oct. 29 and Dec. 10 tied to Halloween and Christmas. The Friday lineup of Sheriff Country, Fire Country and Boston Blue debuts Oct. 9.
