Taylor Sheridan's latest Paramount+ series just concluded its second season on an all-time high note, sparking redemption at the last possible moment. Now trending #1 in the U.S., this hit neo-Western series proves it still has plenty of fuel left in the tank.
After a fantastic debut season in 2024, featuring one of Jon Hamm's best TV performances, this series was instantly hailed as Sheridan's best since Yellowstone. While that's still very much up for debate, last weekend's season 2 finale suggests that the show will only get better from here.
Landman Season 2 Ends With High Hopes For Season 3
The newly released Landman season 2 finale turned the entire sophomore season of the hit Taylor Sheridan series around single-handedly, igniting excitement and optimism after what had been a generally divisive season. Billy Bob Thornton leads a strong ensemble cast as landman Tommy Norris, who wrangles corporate and family drama with signature charm and fierce determination.
Landman began as a Western thriller epic, combining occasional family drama with intense cartel scenes, hard-hitting legal disputes, and one business problem after another. Season 2 started off relatively strong, introducing Sam Elliott's newly added character, T.L., a withered man mourning the death of his wife. Landman season 2 then took some melodramatic, even questionable detours, before tying everything together in a masterful season 2 finale.
Landman Season 3 Is Set To Hit A New Series High

Without getting into spoiler territory, Landman season 2's final episode felt like a much-needed jolt of lightning that ultimately saved the momentum of the franchise, and potentially even the future of the #1 Sheridan hit. With so much apparent friction between Sheridan and Paramount these days, leading to a shortened Mayor of Kingstown fifth and final season and Sheridan's eventual departure to NBCUniversal, factors like viewership and critical reception feel more crucial than ever.
Landman's immediate future was never in doubt, as season 3 had already been ordered right around the time season 2 premiered in November 2025. That said, with Paramount already cancelling a series that already had a season 2 renewal, Dexter: Original Sin, the possibility of Landman's cancellation was never truly out of the question. The fact that Landman season 2 ended on its most celebrated episode is a reassuring sign for the series' future, which should only get better thanks to its excellent season 3 premise.
Following the season 2 finale's release on Sunday, January 18, all ten episodes of Landman season 2 – the #1 trending show in the U.S. right now – are now available to stream, only on Paramount+.
Taylor Sheridan Exit Addressed By Landman Star
Landman season 2 has officially come to a close, and with season 3 on the horizon, Jacob Lofland reflects on the show and its future, including Taylor Sheridan's upcoming departure.
Although Sheridan will soon be leaving Paramount, he will still be around for Landman season 3. However, if the show gets renewed after its third installment, there will be a noticeable shift as the creator is leaving Paramount when his contract ends in 2028 and joins NBCUniversal in 2029.
His decision to leave has driven a wedge between both critics and audiences. While many support his new endeavors and are excited to see what he does next, others were worried about their favorite shows losing the person who created and nurtured them.
In an interview with ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns for the Landman season 2 finale, Lofland, who portrays Cooper in the Paramount+ series, offered his own input regarding Sheridan's departure. The actor said that he was sad to see him go, and it's something that he tries not to think about.
However, he has faith in the creative team behind the hit drama series, such as Christian Wallace (co-creator and executive producer), who will most likely be staying on board after Landman season 3. Lofland said that Sheridan's departure and reasons for leaving were none of his business, so he wasn't going to get involved:
Yeah, I try not to think about it. No, I mean, I trust everyone there. We'll just see what happens. And I don't know, that's not my business, so I try to stay out of it. That's between them.
Sheridan first confirmed that he was leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal in October 2025. The creator struck a five-year deal with the latter for film, television, and streaming. The contract will go into effect on January 1, 2029. His longtime business partner, David Glasser, will also leave for NBCUniversal, bringing 101 Studios with him under a first-look film and TV deal after the company completes its remaining projects with Paramount.
Sheridan has also delivered many successful TV shows for Paramount during his time with the studio. Beginning with Yellowstone, he continued to put out high-performing series that have ranked among Paramount+’s most-watched titles. He also played a significant role in attracting and retaining new subscribers for the streaming platform.
Landman seasons 1 and 2 can be streamed on Paramount+.
