Landman

After 2 Years, Landman’s Real Story Has Finally Begun

The real story of Landman has finally started, with the end of season 2 confirming the show is becoming what it was always meant to be. Landman season 2 followed Tommy navigating his new role as President of M-Tex Oil after Monty's death. This included dealing with company debts while trying to keep Cami from striking a deal with Gallino.

However, Landman season 2 ended with Cami firing Tommy, despite his warnings that M-Tex wouldn't be sustainable in its current direction. At the same time, the protagonist was trying to figure out how to get Cooper out from under Gallino's thumb while still maintaining his oil rigs. As season 2 came to a close, Tommy made one last risky move.

Tommy Will Be Competition For M-Tex & Gallino In Season 3

After 2 Years, Landman’s Real Story Has Finally Begun

At the end of Landman season 2, Tommy struck a deal with Gallino for $44 million to pay M-Tex back for a land buyout, while also getting another $18 million to drill new oil wells there. Convincing the drug cartel head that Cooper's plan was "too big to fail," Tommy was able to strike a financial deal without upending Gallino's deal with M-Tex.

He also had Nate form an LLC, CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle. While the company isn't involved in cattle, they are involved in oil, with Tommy placing Cooper's oil rigs under his company's name. The company has Cooper as President while Tommy will serve as Senior Vice President. TL, Nate, Rebecca, Dale, Ariana, and Boss all have key roles to play as well.

By striking out on his own, Tommy is building a new company that will act as a competition to M-Tex. While Gallino will make profits in the long-run by investing in both, CTT has a chance to beat M-Tex at their own game, serving as worthwhile contenders in the oil business. It also means Landman's characters will embark on a storyline the show's been building to this whole time.

Landman Season 3’s New Oil Company Properly Starts The Show’s Real Story

After 2 Years, Landman’s Real Story Has Finally Begun

Landman season 3 will see Tommy effectively in charge of CTT, something that's been building since season 1. The show has always emphasized how intelligent Tommy's sense of business is, especially after Monty's death when he had to take on more responsibility. Under his own company, he's likely to thrive, especially with the help he has.

This makes season 3 feel like the true start of the story, as Landman will be able to emphasize Tommy's abilities at his full capacity. Though there's bound to be conflict as he continues to develop his company, he's likely to thrive considering all the knowledge he has, and because of how unlikely it is Cami's plans will succeed.

Taylor Sheridan Exit Addressed By Landman Star

Landman season 2 has officially come to a close, and with season 3 on the horizon, Jacob Lofland reflects on the show and its future, including Taylor Sheridan's upcoming departure.

Although Sheridan will soon be leaving Paramount, he will still be around for Landman season 3. However, if the show gets renewed after its third installment, there will be a noticeable shift as the creator is leaving Paramount when his contract ends in 2028 and joins NBCUniversal in 2029.

His decision to leave has driven a wedge between both critics and audiences. While many support his new endeavors and are excited to see what he does next, others were worried about their favorite shows losing the person who created and nurtured them.

In an interview with ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns for the Landman season 2 finale, Lofland, who portrays Cooper in the Paramount+ series, offered his own input regarding Sheridan's departure. The actor said that he was sad to see him go, and it's something that he tries not to think about.

However, he has faith in the creative team behind the hit drama series, such as Christian Wallace (co-creator and executive producer), who will most likely be staying on board after Landman season 3. Lofland said that Sheridan's departure and reasons for leaving were none of his business, so he wasn't going to get involved:

Yeah, I try not to think about it. No, I mean, I trust everyone there. We'll just see what happens. And I don't know, that's not my business, so I try to stay out of it. That's between them.

Sheridan first confirmed that he was leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal in October 2025. The creator struck a five-year deal with the latter for film, television, and streaming. The contract will go into effect on January 1, 2029. His longtime business partner, David Glasser, will also leave for NBCUniversal, bringing 101 Studios with him under a first-look film and TV deal after the company completes its remaining projects with Paramount.

Sheridan has also delivered many successful TV shows for Paramount during his time with the studio. Beginning with Yellowstone, he continued to put out high-performing series that have ranked among Paramount+’s most-watched titles. He also played a significant role in attracting and retaining new subscribers for the streaming platform.

Landman seasons 1 and 2 can be streamed on Paramount+.
