Taylor Sheridan's Hit 2-Season Western Series Won't Crossover With Yellowstone Anytime Soon

Don't hold your breath for a Landman and Yellowstone crossover.

Yellowstone ended with season 5, but the hit franchise continues with spinoffs focused on John Dutton's children. Marshals on CBS spotlights Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) as he attempts to take his life in a different direction. Also, the Paramount+ hit Dutton Ranch continues the story of fan-favorite pairing Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser).

Still, for those hoping for Beth and Kayce to show up in a different Taylor Sheridan show, the Landman stars cast doubt. In comments to Collider at the Newport Beach TV Festival, Landman leads Billy Bob Thornton and Ali Larter seemed to downplay the chances that they'd cross paths with the breakout stars of Yellowstone.

Thornton, who plays Tommy Norris in the Landman cast, answered first and cast doubt on the possibility. Larter, who plays Tommy's ex-wife Angela, also viewed the crossover as unlikely and indicated that Landman was its own separate world. Their comments are below

Thornton: “I don’t know. I have no idea. You know, I doubt it. I’ll put it that way.”

Larter: “No, I do not think so. Sorry to disappoint the fans, but I don’t think that will be happening in our world.”

Landman has a fair amount in common with Yellowstone. Both shows hail from Taylor Sheridan. Landman, like Dutton Ranch, streams on Paramount+, which would make the logistics of a crossover possible. As is the case with prolific TV creators, Yellowstone and Landman deal with similar themes and feature relationship dynamics that tend to overlap from one show to the next.

Outside those similarities, however, the Thornton and Larter drama has established its own canon. Going into Landman season 3, Tommy has an ever-increasing web of alliances and family troubles to navigate. A similar truth holds for Dutton Ranch and Marshals, perhaps even more so, as the spinoffs do their best to establish themselves away from the shadow of Yellowstone and Kevin Costner's John Dutton.

The appeal of a potential crossover is clear, nonetheless, if only for the entertainment value of seeing Angela and Beth square off in a scene. The ensemble of Landman, including the likes of Demi Moore, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chavez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, Andy Garcia, and Sam Elliott, is impressive enough that any combination of actors would yield worthwhile results.

A crossover between Yellowstone and Landman could happen if both Paramount Originals felt they'd need to pull off a stunt without worrying about continuity issues. But at this stage, both shows are way too successful to pull that trigger.

Taylor Sheridan Exit Addressed By Landman Star

Landman season 2 has officially come to a close, and with season 3 on the horizon, Jacob Lofland reflects on the show and its future, including Taylor Sheridan's upcoming departure.

Although Sheridan will soon be leaving Paramount, he will still be around for Landman season 3. However, if the show gets renewed after its third installment, there will be a noticeable shift as the creator is leaving Paramount when his contract ends in 2028 and joins NBCUniversal in 2029.

His decision to leave has driven a wedge between both critics and audiences. While many support his new endeavors and are excited to see what he does next, others were worried about their favorite shows losing the person who created and nurtured them.

In an interview with ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns for the Landman season 2 finale, Lofland, who portrays Cooper in the Paramount+ series, offered his own input regarding Sheridan's departure. The actor said that he was sad to see him go, and it's something that he tries not to think about.

However, he has faith in the creative team behind the hit drama series, such as Christian Wallace (co-creator and executive producer), who will most likely be staying on board after Landman season 3. Lofland said that Sheridan's departure and reasons for leaving were none of his business, so he wasn't going to get involved:

Yeah, I try not to think about it. No, I mean, I trust everyone there. We'll just see what happens. And I don't know, that's not my business, so I try to stay out of it. That's between them.

Sheridan first confirmed that he was leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal in October 2025. The creator struck a five-year deal with the latter for film, television, and streaming. The contract will go into effect on January 1, 2029. His longtime business partner, David Glasser, will also leave for NBCUniversal, bringing 101 Studios with him under a first-look film and TV deal after the company completes its remaining projects with Paramount.

Sheridan has also delivered many successful TV shows for Paramount during his time with the studio. Beginning with Yellowstone, he continued to put out high-performing series that have ranked among Paramount+’s most-watched titles. He also played a significant role in attracting and retaining new subscribers for the streaming platform.

Landman seasons 1 and 2 can be streamed on Paramount+.
