A disappointing update means Landman ended one of the best things about being a viewer of Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace's hit oil drama. Rated 80% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, Landman season 2 emerged as the biggest second season from the United States since 2020. Landman is a monster hit around the world.
Landman season 2 reached 6.2 billion minutes streamed globally in December 2025, with 26.9 million minutes streamed for the week of January 19, 2026 — after Landman season 2 ended on January 18th. Although audiences grumbled about various aspects of Landman season 2, there's no denying that Taylor Sheridan struck black gold for Paramount+.
The events of Landman season 2's ending are an intriguing setup for season 3. With Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) fired as M-Tex Oil's President, the titular landman rallied his family and supporters and founded a new company: CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle. The Norris family is now a corporation taking its fate into its own hands.
Landman Just Ended Its Reliable Annual Fall Release Schedule

According to Billy Bob Thornton, who guested on the Howie Mandel Does Stuff podcast, Landman season 3 will start filming "at the end of August." Unfortunately, this means no November 2026 premiere for Landman season 3 on Paramount+, unlike the first two seasons.
Landman season 2 premiering on Paramount+ just one year after season 1 was a refreshing change of pace. In the streaming era, audiences have been subjected to waits of two years or more in between seasons, which often meant forgetting what had happened in their favorite shows.
Landman's annual release schedule was poised to make Taylor Sheridan's hit oil saga an outlier among its streaming peers. The reliability of its release made Landman feel more like a traditional network TV series, which can be counted on to premiere every fall.
Previously, Landman seasons began filming between March and May to make a November premiere on Paramount+. With Landman season 3 filming projected to start in August, a winter or spring 2027 premiere is now targeted, breaking audiences' hopes to continue hanging with West Texas' Norris clan during the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's holidays.
No reason was given as to why Landman season 3's filming was delayed, but Landman's talented cast has other irons in the fire. Billy Bob Thornton, Andy Garcia, Sam Elliott, Ali Larter, and Michelle Randolph's other projects and opportunities may have made scheduling difficult to coordinate until an August start date.
What To Expect From Landman Season 3

Landman season 3 is poised to take the Norris family in intriguing new directions, after season 2 often felt like the show was spinning its wheels. Tommy consolidating his family and closest friends into a new company is a smart payoff to where Landman was headed since Monty Miller's (Jon Hamm) death in season 1.
Meanwhile, Tommy's alliance with Danny "Gallino" Morrell (Andy Garcia) is now formal, with the drug kingpin funding Norris' new venture, but the two alphas will still butt heads. Tommy's oil company presents direct competition, threatens M-Tex's precarious future, and makes Cami Miller (Demi Moore) an enemy.
While most of Landman's cast is now part of Tommy's CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle, Angela (Ali Larter) and Ainsley Norris (Michelle Randolph) will need new directions of their own in season 3. Ainsley's story will likely be about her continuing to adjust to college life at Texas Christian University, and her roommate, Paigyn (Bobbi Salvör Menuez).
It's disappointing not to have new episodes of Landman to look forward to in November, but season 3 should be worth the wait. Meanwhile, 2027 looks to be stacked with Taylor Sheridan's series, between The Madison season 2, Dutton Ranch season 2, and Landman season 3.
Taylor Sheridan Exit Addressed By Landman Star
Landman season 2 has officially come to a close, and with season 3 on the horizon, Jacob Lofland reflects on the show and its future, including Taylor Sheridan's upcoming departure.
Although Sheridan will soon be leaving Paramount, he will still be around for Landman season 3. However, if the show gets renewed after its third installment, there will be a noticeable shift as the creator is leaving Paramount when his contract ends in 2028 and joins NBCUniversal in 2029.
His decision to leave has driven a wedge between both critics and audiences. While many support his new endeavors and are excited to see what he does next, others were worried about their favorite shows losing the person who created and nurtured them.
In an interview with ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns for the Landman season 2 finale, Lofland, who portrays Cooper in the Paramount+ series, offered his own input regarding Sheridan's departure. The actor said that he was sad to see him go, and it's something that he tries not to think about.
However, he has faith in the creative team behind the hit drama series, such as Christian Wallace (co-creator and executive producer), who will most likely be staying on board after Landman season 3. Lofland said that Sheridan's departure and reasons for leaving were none of his business, so he wasn't going to get involved:
Yeah, I try not to think about it. No, I mean, I trust everyone there. We'll just see what happens. And I don't know, that's not my business, so I try to stay out of it. That's between them.
Sheridan first confirmed that he was leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal in October 2025. The creator struck a five-year deal with the latter for film, television, and streaming. The contract will go into effect on January 1, 2029. His longtime business partner, David Glasser, will also leave for NBCUniversal, bringing 101 Studios with him under a first-look film and TV deal after the company completes its remaining projects with Paramount.
Sheridan has also delivered many successful TV shows for Paramount during his time with the studio. Beginning with Yellowstone, he continued to put out high-performing series that have ranked among Paramount+’s most-watched titles. He also played a significant role in attracting and retaining new subscribers for the streaming platform.
Landman seasons 1 and 2 can be streamed on Paramount+.
