A new update about Landman season 3's release date has explained a key part of the reason why Taylor Sheridan's shows do so well. In the era of streaming, long hiatuses between seasons of shows is now the norm. It's not uncommon for shows to take years to release new episodes. Shows like Severance, Andor, Stranger Things, Euphoria, and more all forced fans to wait multiple years before a new season was released.
The long wait between seasons that has become so common for streaming original series can often be a big problem. When viewers are forced to wait for years before new episodes arrive, they can lose interest in the series, and many viewers often have to rewatch previous seasons just to remember what was going on in the show. Even Taylor Sheridan's shows used to have this problem; it took nearly three years for 1923 season 2 to be released on Paramount+.
Landman, however, has always been different. Landman season 2 ended in January 2026, which was almost exactly a year after the finale of Landman season 1. Landman season 3 was also renewed while season 2 was still releasing new episodes, which set it on track to have yet another speedy turnover between seasons. Now, a new update has confirmed that Sheridan's show is going to continue that trend.
Stephen Kay, the director of the show, recently revealed new details about Landman season 3's release window. As Kay said, the creators of Landman are "cutting while we're shooting and so it'll hopefully be out soon." By condensing two lengthy parts of the development cycle, Landman should be able to avoid an overly long wait between seasons, just as it has in the past. That's great news for Landman, but it also reveals a key piece of Taylor Sheridan's recipe for success.
Taylor Sheridan Embraces The Annual Release Format For Most Shows
There are plenty of reasons why Taylor Sheridan has become one of the most successful writers in Hollywood. He writes good shows, he's the single best Western storyteller working today, and he manages to get all-star casts on board for his projects. An additional part of his success, however, comes from how quickly he makes new seasons. With a few notable exceptions from the past, such as Yellowstone season 5 and 1923 season 2, most of Taylor Sheridan's shows have embraced the annual release format.
In the past few years, almost all of Sheridan's shows have had annual releases of new seasons. Landman seasons 1 and 2 were separated by almost exactly one year, Mayor of Kingstown season 4 came just a year after season 3, and Tulsa King season 3, while no longer written by Sheridan, also had a one-year wait. This trend also looks set to continue with shows like The Madison, which has already been renewed, and Marshals season 2 also being quickly renewed for a network TV schedule.
Even back when his shows were less dependably quick, Sheridan made up for it by having a constant supply of new shows to hold viewers over. While Yellowstone season 5 part 2 was on hiatus, for example, two seasons of Lioness, 1923 season 1, and Mayor of Kingstown seasons 2 and 3 were all released. Fans of Sheridan's shows have never had to wait very long for more content, which helps him retain viewers and helped his empire of shows grow.
What To Expect From Landman Season 3
With Landman season 3 coming as soon as late 2026 or early 2027, it's worth looking ahead to what the record-breaking show has in store. Luckily, Landman season 2 left plenty of threads for the coming season to pick up. Most notably, Tommy started CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle, a new company the entire Norris family and friends are involved in. Landman season 3 will likely focus mainly on Tommy, Cooper, and TL working together to get their business off the ground.
CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle will give Landman season 3 a built-in way to focus on the Norris family's dynamics. The entire company is owned and operated by family and friends, so Tommy's life won't be divided between his loved ones and Cami any longer. Unfortunately, Tommy had to take money from Gallino, aka Danny Morell, which could mean he and his cartel will have even more sway over Tommy and force him into some tough and less than legal situations.
The other members of the Norris family also have a fairly clear path forward. Cooper spent most of Landman season 2 trying to win Ariana's hand in marriage, so season 3 will likely see them start their married life together. Ainsley also started her college and cheerleading career at TCU, which sets up a new, almost entirely separate B-plot for the season as she struggles to fit in and continues to grow as a person.
As always, Landman season 3 will also likely feature quite a few arguments, fights, and family drama, mainly between Tommy and Angela. Though they're in a better place now than they ever have been before, Angela and Tommy fight like cats and dogs, especially at Angela's overly complicated dinner parties. TL could also be a source of drama, as his relationship with Tommy is healing but still strained. In short, Landman season 3 has a lot of narrative ground to cover.
Taylor Sheridan Exit Addressed By Landman Star
Landman season 2 has officially come to a close, and with season 3 on the horizon, Jacob Lofland reflects on the show and its future, including Taylor Sheridan's upcoming departure.
Although Sheridan will soon be leaving Paramount, he will still be around for Landman season 3. However, if the show gets renewed after its third installment, there will be a noticeable shift as the creator is leaving Paramount when his contract ends in 2028 and joins NBCUniversal in 2029.
His decision to leave has driven a wedge between both critics and audiences. While many support his new endeavors and are excited to see what he does next, others were worried about their favorite shows losing the person who created and nurtured them.
In an interview with ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns for the Landman season 2 finale, Lofland, who portrays Cooper in the Paramount+ series, offered his own input regarding Sheridan's departure. The actor said that he was sad to see him go, and it's something that he tries not to think about.
However, he has faith in the creative team behind the hit drama series, such as Christian Wallace (co-creator and executive producer), who will most likely be staying on board after Landman season 3. Lofland said that Sheridan's departure and reasons for leaving were none of his business, so he wasn't going to get involved:
Yeah, I try not to think about it. No, I mean, I trust everyone there. We'll just see what happens. And I don't know, that's not my business, so I try to stay out of it. That's between them.
Sheridan first confirmed that he was leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal in October 2025. The creator struck a five-year deal with the latter for film, television, and streaming. The contract will go into effect on January 1, 2029. His longtime business partner, David Glasser, will also leave for NBCUniversal, bringing 101 Studios with him under a first-look film and TV deal after the company completes its remaining projects with Paramount.
Sheridan has also delivered many successful TV shows for Paramount during his time with the studio. Beginning with Yellowstone, he continued to put out high-performing series that have ranked among Paramount+’s most-watched titles. He also played a significant role in attracting and retaining new subscribers for the streaming platform.
